CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

It's amazing how quickly time passes and even more incredible that Christmas will be here in only one month, and that means go back home for barely two weeks after these unexpected ten months in Helsinki.

Today, camera in hand, I headed to the city center, because the holiday season is inaugurated with the lighting of the lights and the usual parade, full of color and glitter, headed by Joulupukki (Santa Claus).

Although the city was beautiful and Finland is the country of Christmas, I could not help feeling a certain nostalgia, because for me is not the same if it is not full of sun and the smell of the sea and the chestnuts. And although everything here is a new and exciting experience, to live in another country has made me aware that I have a deeply feeling of where I come from, of whom I love and our traditions.

Es increíble lo rápido que pasa el tiempo y es aún más increíble que ya sólo quede un mes para navidad, para volver a casa durante escasas dos semanas después de estos inesperados diez meses en Helsinki.

Hoy, cámara en mano, me he dirigido al centro de la ciudad, pues se inauguraba la temporada navideña con el encendido de las luces y con el habitual desfile, lleno de color y brillo, encabezado por el mismo Joulupukki (Santa Claus).

Aunque la ciudad estaba preciosa y Finlandia sea el país por excelencia de la navidad, no he podido evitar sentir cierta nostalgia, pues para mí no es lo mismo si no está llena de sol, de olor a mar y a castañas. Y es que aunque todo aquí sea una experiencia nueva y emocionante, vivir en otro país me ha hecho ser consciente de que tengo muy arraigado de donde vengo, a los que quiero y nuestras tradiciones.
